Adaptive technology in senior communities is moving from the activity room right into the residents' rooms. Centennial, Colo.-based It's Never 2 Late (iN2L) and Westminster-Canterbury, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) on Virginia's Chesapeake Bay, are teaming up to provide 31 adaptive computers in the rooms of residents who have varying levels of cognitive impairment.
"It’s easy to make assumptions about what older adults with any type of disability can and cannot do with technology," said Ben Unkle, CEO of Westminster-Canterbury, in a press release. "These assumptions are instantly shattered when user-friendly technology intersects with meaningful and appropriate content personalized for each resident."
Westminster-Canterbury is one of many CCRCs that are bringing user-friendly and personalizable computer technology to residents so they can remain actively engaged with the outside world.
"We are excited about what this project means to the future of aging,” said Jack York, co-founder and CEO of iN2L, in a press release. "This is a watershed project branching into individuals’ rooms, and is the logical extension of our mission."
