Medication dispensing system gets smaller

Anaheim, Calif-based CareFusion has developed a smaller medication dispensing cabinet that offers many of the same features as the company's larger version.

Although it has less than half the capacity of the Pyxis MedStation ES system, the new Pyxis Mini system uses the same platform, the same server, the same CUBIE pockets and the same centralized inventory management and data systems as the larger system.

Its smaller size, however, makes it applicable for use in outpatient settings such as ambulatory care centers, long-term care facilities and behavioral health centers while still providing centralized medication management across the entire enterprise.

"We are committed to providing health systems with an optimized platform of enterprise-wide medication management, through internal innovation and collaboration agreements that provide a best-in-class experience for clinicians and their patients," said Tom Leonard, president of the Medical Systems segment for CareFusion, in a press release.
