IT can reduce stress, errors in healthcare organizations

Reducing many treatment errors may be as simple as reducing the stress levels of healthcare workers by adopting and using existing health IT solutions.

In a research paper published in the International Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, Uta Herter of the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany says that healthcare organizations should take the initiative in training staff to use IT solutions like RFID (radio frequency identification) tags, medication management and dispensing software, electronic health records and business intelligence software.

"Innovations regarding new IT technologies need to be promoted; their transferability to the medical field must be proven," said Herter in a press statement. "Only in this way is it possible to implement the implication of facilitation and support of the implementation of new and innovative IT-based concepts, RFID technology and EHRs in hospitals, improve the healthcare services and thus contribute to the most important good for every individual– health."
