EHR vendor for LTC market beefs up security

As the number of security breaches continues to rise, protecting health information has become more important than ever — especially information stored in electronic health records or data communicated between providers and practioners.

PointClickCare, a leading provider of EHRs for the LTC market, announced it is implementing an authentication solution developed by Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based VASCO Data Security International Inc.

Since PointClickCare recently launched a cloud-based mobile solution that allows healthcare providers to work directly from their mobile devices, it needed a way to verify a user's ID. By incorporating VASCO's DIGIPASS GO 6 one-button authentication solution, PointClickCare's new Practitioner Engagement mobile solution now allows clinicians to easily log in before viewing charts or signing electronic orders.

“Security is an important issue for senior care practitioners when implementing an authentication and positive identification solution for electronically prescribing and co-signing orders," said Dave Wessinger, PointClickCare's chief technology officer. “VASCO’s strong authentication addresses these challenges by offering a convenient and safeguarded second factor authentication for our customers that will meet the DEA’s requirements.”
