Chronic disease apps could boost mHealth market by 33%: Report

The global mobile health (mHealth) market will continue to surge, spurred by the use of mobile and wireless technologies to remotely monitor chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, according to an analysis by Allied Market Research. The mHealth market, valued at $10.5 billion in 2014, is expected to grow by 33.5 percent in the next five years.

Much of this growth, according to the report, is due to the increasing prevalence of lifestyle diseases, growing government initiatives and the rising adoption of smartphones. Although blood pressure monitoring currently holds the lion’s share of the mobile device market, blood glucose monitoring is the fastest-growing segment.

On the global stage, North America continues to hold the dominant share of the mHealth market, with Asia-Pacific reportedly the fast-growing segment.
