App aimed at Alzheimer’s stimulates the mind

It's widely accepted by caregivers that certain stimuli have a positive effect on those with cognitive decline. By combining music and art, GE Healthcare has developed a new app for the iPad that can stimulate the minds of residents with Alzheimer's disease and other neurological conditions.

According to a press release posted on the company's website, GE Healthcare designed this free app, called MIND (Make an Impact on Neurological Disorders), as a way to provide mental stimulation to those affected by dementia, Parkinson's disease, essential tremors, stroke and traumatic brain injury.

Since music is a great stimulator, the MIND app allows the users to play their favorite songs, create their own music, watch music videos, or listen to music from different countries.

As for the visual arts, the app allows users to view great works of art in a virtual art gallery and then gives them the ability to create their own version of a masterpiece while interacting with their caregivers.

The new app also includes a number of tips designed for caregivers on how to enhance the care delivered to residents with neurological challenges.
