Partnership offers new tracking systems for dementia wandering

Bluvision and GTX Corp. have partnered to develop the BLE SmartSole monitoring system, which allows caregivers to track the locations of individuals with cognitive disorders such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease and autism.

Currently being piloted in small and mid-sized nursing homes where staffing is limited, the BLE SmartSole system integrates Bluvision's sensor technology built into a shoe sole insert with a Bluetooth beacon-reporting technology that provides caregivers the ability to access real-time location data from their smartphones or tablets.

The partnership will draw upon Bluvision's Bluetooth-enabled beacon technology and GTX's real-time GPS personal location service and tracking app.

According to a press release, the BLE SmartSole features water-resistent sensors, a battery life of more than a year, the ability to set distance parameters and sizes to fit most standard shoes.
