Cost of Assisted Living, Nursing Home Care Continues to Climb; Home Care Remains Flat

The cost to receive care in assisted living facilities and nursing homes increased over the past year, according to Genworth Financial’s “2011 Cost of Care Survey.” Home care costs remained unchanged from the previous year.

Nationally, the median annual cost of care in an assisted living facility is $39,135, an increase of 2.4 percent from 2010. The comparable cost for a private nursing home room rose 3.4 percent to $77,745. The median hourly cost for home health aide service remained flat at $19 an hour.
