CMS seeks provider input on LTC’s EHR use

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is asking long-term care providers to weigh in on electronic health record (EHR) system adoption and the use of health information exchanges (HIEs). The agency has provided an online survey to gather feedback on how health information technologies—especially EHRs—are being used to support clinical care delivery and to improve transitions of care.

Although the survey data will help CMS understand the roles played by health information technology in long-term and post-acute care settings, the data “will also identify both the benefits and the gaps hindering provider participation in programs that promote care coordination, such as the participation in HIE,” the survey’s introduction states.

The survey is voluntary, and individual responses will not be made public, CMS says. The survey period runs through March 3.
