AHCA Appoints New Head of Government Relations

The American Health Care Association (AHCA) has selected Jeff Myers, a former congressional aide specializing in health policy, as its new senior vice president of Policy and Government Relations.

Myers worked in the U.S. House of Representatives for Reps. Don Sundquist and Alex McMillan, serving as latter’s lead health staff during the 1994 healthcare reform debate. Myers eventually transitioned to Rep. Fred Upton’s office and served as his legislative director and health staff for the Health Subcommittee on the Energy and Commerce Committee.

“Jeff’s knowledge of the wide array of issues that are part of the ongoing healthcare debate, combined with his experience on Capitol Hill, make him an ideal leader who can effectively represent the interests of our nation’s long-term care system,” said Mark Parkinson, president and CEO of AHCA and the National Center for Assisted Living, in a release.

After leaving Capitol Hill, Myers spent 10 years representing the pharmaceutical industry before Congress. He has held positions at Hoffman-LaRoche, Pharmacia and Biogen Idec.

In 2006, Myers was named Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy for Cephalon, Inc., where he oversaw every legislative initiative for the midsized pharmaceutical company. Myers is also a founding member of the advocacy group America’s Specialty Medicine Coalition.

Myers received his B.A. from Rhodes College of Tennessee, and his M.B.A. from Duke University. He currently resides in McLean, Va. with his wife and three children.
