Ad campaign pushes ‘care not cuts’ for nursing homes

The American Health Care Association and the Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care have partnered with AHCA’s Florida state affiliate to run the first ad in a campaign series called “Care Not Cuts.”

The ad campaign is intended to be a nationwide informational series on nursing homes’ inability to accept more cuts as a congressional super committee begins examining how to reform entitlement programs, among other federal programs, to reduce the nation’s deficit.

“Already coping with billions of dollars in reductions from healthcare reform, federal regulations and a state Medicaid crisis, our facilities are feeling the impact,” said Emmett Reed, executive director of Florida Health Care Association, which is running the first TV ad in the Care Not Cuts series. “This campaign raises awareness among Florida’s congressional delegation that we cannot sustain any more cuts, and who better to deliver this message than the dedicated caregivers who serve our seniors every single day?”

Running now through September 6, the first TV ad of the multi-month campaign “Nurses,” seen below, features frontline caregivers talking about nursing home care and the industry’s recent financial issues.

Reed said the informational campaign will proceed throughout the remainder of 2011. Long-term and post-acute care facilities serve provide more than 178,000 jobs in Florida, according to the association.
