Long-Term Living wins two ASHPE Awards

The editors of Long-Term Living have won two awards in the 2015 American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors (ASHPE) awards competition.

Editor-in-Chief Pamela Tabar earned a Gold Award in the Best Digital/Print Integration category for her coverage of the 2014 winner of Long-Term Living's OPTIMA Award competition, which appeared online and as the cover story in the brand’s September 2014 print and digital editions. The editorial package included an article with sidebars, a blog and a video about a memory care community that melds activity programming and dementia care to engage older adults all day. Tabar and Long-Term Living colleagues Lois A. Bowers, senior editor, and Sandra Hoban, managing editor, also captured first place in this category in 2014.

Also in the 2015 competition, Bowers won a Silver Award in the Best Blog category. Her entry included a May 13, 2014, column that discussed the surprising lack of knowledge of stroke among some long-term care workers and provided tips to address it; a June 13, 2014, column about the inaccurate perception that some executives have about the prevalence of elder abuse in their facilities, with information about how to prevent or stop abuse of residents; and a blog about how a documentary, a foundation and training materials for caregivers arose from entertainer Glen Campbell’s wish to share “the gnarly truth” about dementia, which appeared online Oct. 24, 2014.

Bowers also was recognized this week with a 2015 All Ohio Excellence in Journalism Award in the Best Feature: Trends category for her “2015 Business Outlook” article, which was the cover story in Long-Term Livings December 2014 issue and was published online in multiple installments. Also recognized in the All Ohio competition was Long-Term Living contributor Ron Rajecki, who was a winner in the Best Freelancer category. That competition is organized by the Press Club of Cleveland and is open to all journalists working or publishing in the state via daily and other newspapers, consumer and business magazines, radio and television. The Long-Term Living editorial staff is based in Cleveland.

In addition to the previously mentioned 2014 ASHPE Award, Long-Term Living editors most recently won awards in the ASHPE competition in 20132012 and 2010 (scroll to bottom of page).

Also winning awards in the 2015 ASHPE competition were Long-Term Living sister media brands Addiction Professional, which received a Silver Award in the Best Feature Article category, and Healthcare Informatics, which earned a Silver Award in the Best Special Report/Section category.
