A senior parade

One Minnesota community walks the line for its seniors.

Residents of Winona, Minnesota, throw a mini-parade for seniors at Lake Winona Manor.

The idea arose 10 years ago after a resident was sad about missing the city’s annual Steamboat Days celebrations.

“They were bummed because they couldn’t go to the big parade,” said Jennifer Schultz, Winona Health therapeutic recreation supervisor to Winona Daily News. “So we figured out a way to bring the parade here.”

This year, residents sat outside the entrance to the long-term care facility and watched the mayor, members of Winona’s clown club and even a replica Etcho-1 Ghostbusters car roll by.
