The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges not only for the general population, but also for senior care facilities nationwide.

To date, the pandemic has claimed nearly 400,000 lives in the United States. According to the CMS, nursing home residents account for more than 76,000 of those deaths, and more than 377,000 nursing home residents have been confirmed to have the virus. Additionally, there have been over 322,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases in nursing home staff, and more than 1,100 staff deaths have resulted from the virus.

The numbers are sobering, but in the midst of this challenge, there has also been hope and innovation. Senior care facilities have rapidly and successfully adapted, embracing new procedures, methods of operation, and technology to help them protect staff and residents.

The coming months are certain to bring new challenges, but facilities will continue to adapt and innovate in response. We’re pleased to share some of their stories in hopes that they will serve as inspiration and best practices for other facilities, too.
