LTC covered in Joint Commission’s online infection control resource center

The Joint Commission on Monday launched a health care-associated infections (HAIs) online portal that provides both free and for-purchase resources for combating central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections and other conditions.

The HAI Portal also includes resources on hand hygiene, influenza, staff education and vaccinations, and has a separate section for long-term care providers.

“Health care-associated infections are harmful for patients, costly for healthcare organizations and largely preventable,” said Jerod M. Loeb, PhD, executive vice president, Healthcare Quality Evaluation at The Joint Commission.

The Joint Commission’s HAI resources are organized under three headings: HAI Topics; Infection Prevention and Control; and HAI Information related to specific Accreditation Programs (hospital, home care, long-term care and others).
