Long-term care, a global challenge

Aging populations confront social care structures and weak economic conditions in Britain, much as they do in the U.S. As the British government struggles to reform and fund an outdated and underfunded social care system, the question is the same: Who will pay for the care?

Although London’s Financial Times (FT) reports that although the Queen is expected to emphasize the importance the government places on social care reform in her speech May 9, change is not likely in the near term. Indeed, according to FT, there is little hope for any change in Britain’s long-term care policies for the elderly and disabled until late next year at the earliest.
