Ensign Group adds three more SNFs in Texas

The Ensign Group, Mission Viejo, Calif., purchased three skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) in Texas this week, boosting their portfolio by 337 total beds. The San Marcos Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, a 129-bed skilled nursing facility in San Marcos, Texas, The Courtyard Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, a 56-bed skilled nursing facility in Victoria, Texas, and La Villa Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, a 152-bed skilled nursing facility also in Victoria, Texas, will be operated by Keystone Care, an Ensign subsidiary, according to a corporate statement.

The publicly traded company [NASDAQ: ENSG] has been in purchasing mode for the past quarter, buying at least 5 entities since the beginning of 2013, according to company press releases. With the latest acquisitions, Ensign now owns or operates 112 healthcare facilities, seven hospice companies and nine home health businesses across 11 states.

Ensign reported adjusted net profits of $55.7 million in 2012, despite $15 million set aside in fourth quarter as an “estimated liability” related to an ongoing Department of Justice investigation.
