California LTC unions merge to create 280k-person powerhouse
California now has the nation's largest long-term care workers union, holding strong at roughly 280,000 members, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The new Service Employees International Union Local 2015 combines home health and nursing home workers from more than 37 counties. Union officials told The Bee that the new local will help them lead the nationwide fight for $15 minimum wage.
"This is a historic moment in building a stronger voice for the home-care providers and nursing home workers who Californians depend on to care for our seniors and those with disabilities,” Laphonza Butler, provisional president of SEIU Local 2015, told The Bee.
