Bringing Alzheimer’s and falls prevention to public attention
The Alzheimer’s Association dedicates September as World Alzheimer’s Month to raise awareness, remove the stigma and share information and hope with the public. Today, Alzheimer’s Action Day, everyone is encouraged to “Go purple!” By wearing purple, the public is reminded of the plight of millions of individuals worldwide and their families who battle this disease every day. Acceptance and awareness is key in confronting this devastating disease and overcoming patient denial.
September 22 is Falls Prevention Awareness Day sponsored by the National Council on Aging. This year’s theme is “Standing Together to Prevent Falls.” Working together, healthcare professionals, caregivers, seniors and families can join forces to in fall prevention and raising public awareness of how a fall can seriously affect mobility and health—for anyone.
