EHR provider bites into meal management

Recognizing the importance of nutritional management in long-term and post-acute care, PointClickCare, a leading provider of electronic health records (EHRs) to the long-term care industry, announced on November 12 that it had acquired Meal Metrics, a leading provider of nutritional management software.

The acquisition will now allow caregivers the ability to plan and modify the nutritional needs of residents at a single point of control, and will allow nurses to shift the documentation of nutrition data from paper charts to the EHR.

Being sold under the name PointClickCare Tray Card, the Web-based solution provides organization-wide access to a resident's nutritional care information, such as specific food allergies or special diets, and presents the aggregate data in an easy-to-read electronic format.

In addition to providing caregivers the ability to manage and modify nutritional requirements at a single point of control, the system also provides automated updates.

In announcing the acquisition, Garth Smith, president of Meal Metrics stated: "PointClickCare provides an exceptional business and cultural fit for our company and all of our stakeholders. This acquisition presents our customers with an exciting new opportunity to leverage expertise in the development, delivery and successful adoption of Electronic Health Record technology."
