Nursing care occupancy declines not felt everywhere

As of the second quarter of 2013, nursing care occupancy in the 31 largest metropolitan markets (MAP31) was 87.6%, down 40 basis points from a year ago. Across the individual metropolitan markets there was significant variation in the annual changes during the past year, with Las Vegas’s occupancy having increased the most at 160 basis points and Baltimore’s occupancy having decreased the most—having lost 180 basis points.

During the past year, 15 metropolitan markets experienced occupancy increases; one remained unchanged; and 15 metropolitan markets experienced occupancy declines.
