Walgreens announces expansion of 24/7 telemedicine app

At the end of 2014, Walgreens announced it was launching a 24/7 telemedicine app for consumers. The app started in two states and has since spread to three more, with the intent to be in 25 states by year's end.

As of June 10, the app, made in collaboration with MDLIVE, is available in California, Michigan, Illinois, Washington and Colorado. And in its recent expansion, desktop and tablet functionality were added. Using the app, consumers have 24/7 access to MDLIVE’s network of U.S. board-certified doctors.

“As we continue to advance our telehealth strategy and expand our digital footprint, we’re pleased to help offer unparalleled access to medical professionals for more of our customers,” said Adam Pellegrini, Walgreens divisional vice president of digital health, in a press release. “Our society truly values anytime, anywhere convenience. And with a growing need for access to affordable health care services, we believe telehealth solutions can play an important role in helping to improve patient outcomes and continues our mission to provide a seamless, omni-channel digital health experience.”
