Upstairs Solutions, Care2Learn announce merger

Online training and continuing education companies Upstairs Solutions and Care2Learn announced Friday a merger that combines their e-learning and record-keeping system solutions into one offering for the post-acute care industry.

Providers will have access to more than 500 accredited course modules that can be used by management, administrators, nurses and other licensed and non-licensed staff, according to a release.

The combined company, which now provides services to 4,000 post-acute care facilities in the United States and Canada, will operate under parent company VectorLearning. Additional details surrounding the merger, including a new name for the combined company, will be announced in coming months, the company's principals told Long-Term Living in a phone interview.

Tamar Abell, MA, CCC-SLP, LNHA, principal of Upstairs Solutions, will serve as president of the merged organization, and Tom Wallace will serve as CEO of VectorLearning. The combined company currently has 126 employees serving 600,000 users, Wallace said.

The announcement also listed a new record-keeping system, “Learning Management System,” to manage and track training, licenses and competencies, as combined integration will incorporate the “best-of-the-best features” from both companies’ existing tracking systems.

"[With increased] government oversight and mandatory quality assurance, the LTC industry will be pressed to find a way to do training and tracking of training for accountability," Abell said. "We think we will [fill] that need."
