Portable DVT compression device now available

Unlike the standard bulky, heavy and plug-in compression devices used to prevent deep vein thrombosis in hospitals and long-term care facilities, a much lighter and battery-operated one is now available from Tampa, Fl.-based Vascular PRN.

Called Triple Play, the new portable device features a miniaturized air pump and weighs only one pound. The internal batteries can run for 17 hours before recharging. And even when the batteries are being recharged, the unit can still be operated, according to a press release.

The unit's portability now means that residents of long-term care facilities, or those still living at home, can be almost anywhere and still receive the necessary compression therapy needed to prevent blood clots in their lower extremities.
