One killed at senior living community in Kansas

One person was shot and killed outside senior living community Village Shalom in Overland Park, Kan., yesterday, the Associated Press is reporting.

The attack on the victim, described for now as “a woman or girl,” followed the shooting of a 14-year-old boy, Reat Griffin Underwood, and his grandfather, William Lewis Corporon, outside a nearby Jewish community center; the shootings are thought to be related. The alleged gunman was identified as Frazier Glenn Cross, 72, of Aurora, Mo., described as a “well-known white supremacist.”

Village Shalom offers independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care at its Overland Park campus. On its Facebook page yesterday, Village Shalom posted: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families in light of the tragic events that took place this afternoon. We know very few details at this time. Thank you to the local police, emergency crews and the Village Shalom staff for their immediate response and protection. Your continued prayers and support are appreciated as we await more information at this difficult time.”
