Mark Ohlendorf, co-president and CFO of Brookdale Senior Living, was announced chairman of the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) board of directors during today’s opening general session of the ALFA 2011 Conference & Expo in Orlando. Ohlendorf succeeds Granger Cobb, president and CEO of Emeritus Senior Living, who served as ALFA chairman for the past year.

New directors also taking office this month are Lawrence Cohen, CEO of Capital Senior Living; and Dan Hirschfeld, executive vice president of Genesis Healthcare. Brad Klitsch, senior vice president of Market Development for Direct Supply, will assume an ex officio role on the board and has been named chairman of the ALFA President's Council.

During Tuesday’s general session, Ohlendorf unveiled the beginnings of an “aggressive development plan” for ALFA and its members centered around four objectives. The association will be focus on: championing legislation that protects seniors; reshaping public opinion about senior living in the effort to increase market penetration; “raising the bar of excellence” within senior living through networking and innovation; and developing more opportunities for ALFA members to interact with one another.
