Nursing home associations merge

Two of long-term care’s major advocacy groups—The American Health Care Association (AHCA) and The Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care (AQNHC)—will merge as AHCA effective on July 1.

The current economic and political challenges faced by both groups made this an opportune time to unite. In a release AHCA President/CEO Mark Parkinson said, “Faced with continued cuts and agrowing pressures on the systems that fund the care we provide, there was only one choice—to band together to form one unified voice.”

Commenting on the merger, AQNHC President Alan G. Rosenbloom believes in the benefits of a unified approach to solving the issues in a changing long-term care market. He said, “Through unity of purpose and mission, together we will continue to spotlight the fact that we are a key part of the solution to Medicare and Medicaid cost containment and that the barrage of federal and state funding cuts are unsustainable.”
