In collaboration with the White House Conference on Aging, the National Institute on Aging (NIA) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is encouraging more seniors to get out there and move with its Go4Life Month campaign.
The campaign will bring together hundreds of federal, state and local partners to encourage adults over the age of 50 to exercise and stay active for better health. The theme for Go4Life Month in September is "Be Active Every Day!"
"Go4Life is based on research showing that exercise can help prevent many of the chronic conditions and disability associated with aging," NIH wrote in a press release.
"It’s never too late for exercise to have a positive effect on your health," NIA Director Richard J. Hodes, MD, said in a press release. “We know that exercise can reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity, stroke, diabetes and other chronic conditions. One recent study found that even sedentary people in their 70s and 80s improved mobility and reduced risk of disability through a regular program of structured physical activity.”
