Next White House Conference on Aging event March 31

As White House Conference on Aging staff members prepare for their next regional forum, set for March 31 in Phoenix, Cecilia Muñoz, assistant to the president and director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, reflected on the first forum, Feb. 19 in Tampa, Fla., in a blog post.

“This forum brought together a community of older Americans, advocates, caregivers, experts and local leaders who are committed to working to address the changing landscape of aging,” she wrote, adding that the event included panel discussions, speeches and breakout sessions. Additional people could watch the forum online as it was happening, and it is archived for viewing now, too.

Panel members included AMDA-The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine President-Elect Naushira Pandya, MD, who practices in Florida. She spoke about the changing nature of long-term care, the needs of the LGBT community and training the next generation of healthcare professionals who will care for the elderly, among other topics.

To date, in addition to the Tampa forum, conference Executive Director Nora Super has held “listening events” with key constituencies as well as webinars on healthful living and elder justice, two themes of the conference. Additional webinars as well as regional events in Seattle, Cleveland and Boston are among the other events planned.
