New skin adhesive expands options for wound care, wearables

Bluestar Silicones has expanded its line of Silbione silicone skin adhesives with the introduction of Silbione HC2 2022, a soft silicone adhesive designed specifically for wound care.

This medium-viscosity, microbial-safe gel is said to be gentle on the skin, compatible with most coating processes and can be used to adhere a number of substrates to open wounds including pressure ulcer films, perforated films and open-knit fabrics.

Bluestar, headquartered in Lyon, France, also has introduced a new high-tack silicone gel designed for use with wearable sensors, transdermal drug delivery patches and other wearable devices.

"We are excited to introduce these new high adhesion, soft silicone skin adhesives to the marketplace," said Karen O’Keefe, business director, Elastomers, in a press release. "Now, high performance adhesion can be achieved with efficiency, as customers no longer have to increase coat weights to gain high tack."
