New alliance dedicated to person-centered dementia care

Three LTC organizations (Planetree, Eden Alternative and CCAL—Advancing Person-Centered Living) that are dedicated to person-centered care (PCC) in the senior living sector have joined forces to create the Dementia Action Alliance (DAA), an organization that will advocate for people with dementia and their caregivers to press the importance of making PCC the norm for dementia care in the United States.

The costs of dementia care are increasing and the optimum care is still not being delivered nationwide. The Dementia Action Alliance will carry the message to policymakers, researchers and providers about the importance and benefits of establishing PCC as the “gold standard” for dementia care.

To find out what people with dementia and their caregivers truly feel are the most important challenges to improving dementia care practices, public policy and research, the DAA leadership is currently seeking that information in a nationwide grassroots effort.

Next spring, DAA thought-leaders will meet to share this information and discuss the implementation of solutions.

“By aligning research, policy and practice efforts, and advancing implementation of person-centered care to support individuals living with and affected by dementia, the Dementia Action Alliance is supporting our collective human desire to realize compassion in action,” said Michael Lepore, PhD, director of quality, research and Evaluation for Planetree in a release.
