Never too old for love, or a belly rub

One look was all it took.

Joseph and Pat couldn’t resist those big brown eyes, so they gave Shultz a fur-ever home.

What makes this story even more heartwarming is that the couple is in their 90s, and they adopted a senior dog.

Many people discouraged Joseph and Pat from adopting at their age, but after they lost their German Shepard to cancer, they missed the trot of paws and the thwack, thwack, thwack of the tail. They went to the Pittsburgh Animal Rescue League in search of a bigger, older dog that would fit their home and lifestyle.

They saw a black lab with a gray snout and clam demeanor sitting in the back of his kennel run.

“I knew the minute I saw him that he was our dog,” Joseph says to pawculture. “He’s grey. We’re grey! Us seniors were perfect for each other.”

Dog photographer Milla of Real Happy Dogs captured these joyous moments of the new family.
