GreatCall acquires Lively Inc.

Active aging technology developer GreatCall, maker of the Jitterbug cell phone and other technology for seniors, has acquired San Francisco-based Lively and its assets in home health connectivity. Three-year-old Lively has developed an in-home wireless platform that interfaces with a wearable personal alert watch, a live emergency communications service and automated medication reminders and compliance tracking.

“As GreatCall looks at consolidating the fragmented active aging space, we see this acquisition as a strategic move for our connected health platform,” said Brian Berning, CFO of GreatCall, in a corporate release. “With the sheer number of family caregivers in the U.S. and the aging of Baby Boomers, the need for technology support will increase rapidly.”

Lively’s products will be supported by the GreatCall customer care team and will ultimately become part of the GreatCall platform.
