Fact sheet highlights LGBT information for nursing home residents

The National Long-Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center (NORC) has released a fact sheet providing information about the nursing home-related rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents; options for complaint resolution; tips on reporting abuse; and long-term care and advocacy resources.

The organization issued the information in conjunction with the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care’s observance of October as Nursing Home Residents' Rights Month and the Human Rights Campaign’s observance of Oct. 11 as National Coming Out Day. NORC is operated by Consumer Voice in cooperation with the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities.

NORC produced the fact sheet, titled “Residents’ Rights and the LGBT Community: Know Your Rights as a Nursing Home Resident,” with the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging and Lambda Legal.
