Casey Kasem has died

Casey Kasem is now reaching for the stars.

The 82-year-old, best known for his work on the syndicated radio countdown and dedication show "American Top 40" and similar shows, as well as for serving as the voice of Shaggy on the "Scooby Doo" cartoon, has passed away in a Washington state hospital, according to the Associated Press.

Kasem died June 15 at 3:23 a.m., according to a statement issued by the family. His reported illnesses—among them Parkinson's disease and Lewy Body Dementia—as well as the feud between the adult children from his first marriage and his second wife regarding his care, have been the focus of recent media reports. June 11, a judge ruled that daughter Kerri could allow drugs, food and liquids to be withheld from her father.

The well-known signature line he used to close his radio show every week was: "Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars."
