ALFA board names five new directors

Five new directors have joined the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) Board of Directors.

  • Tana Gall, president of Seattle-based Merrill Gardens;
  • Ed Kenny, president and CEO of Des Moines, Iowa-based LCS;
  • Randy Richardson, president of Chicago-based Vi;
  • Patricia Will, president of Houston-based Belmont Village; and
  • Chris Winkle, CEO of McLean, Va.-based Sunrise Senior Living.

ALFA Chair Brenda Bacon referenced the organization's plans for the future, announced in June, in congratulating the new directors. Those plans include a new name, strengthened advocacy efforts at the state level, the adoption of professional standards, the creation of credentialing programs for certain staff positions, and an examination of the merits of various types of accreditation.

“We are thrilled that these senior living innovators have joined ALFA, recognizing the association’s renewed vigor in embracing the changing needs of our evolving industry,” said Bacon, who is president and CEO of Brandywine Senior Living. “We look forward to embracing their skills and energy as we build a trade association even better positioned and equipped to address the future needs of seniors and of our members who serve them.”
 
In addition to Bacon, the new directors join ALFA officers Loren Shook, who is president, CEO and chairman of Silverado Senior Living and vice chairman of the ALFA board; Timothy Buchanan, CEO of Legend Senior Living and vice chairman of the ALFA board; Charles Herman Jr., executive vice president and chief information officer of Health Care REIT and secretary of the ALFA board; Bruce Mackey Jr., president and CEO of Five Star Senior Living and treasurer of the ALFA board; Stephanie Handelson, president and CEO of Benchmark Senior Living and public policy chair of the ALFA board; and Mark Ohlendorf, co-president and chief financial officer of Brookdale and immediate past chairman of the ALFA board.

Additional board members include Evrett Benton, CEO and co-founder of Stellar Senior Living; Jon DeLuca, president and CEO, Senior Lifestyle Corp.; Sue Farrow, chairman and CEO, Integral Senior Living; Dan Hirschfeld, president, Genesis Rehabilitation Services; Kai Hsiao, president and CEO, Holiday Retirement Corp.; Chris Hyatt, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Emeritus Senior Living; Blair Minton, president and founder, RPM Management; Pat Mulloy, CEO, Elmcroft Senior Living; Todd Novaczyk, founder and CEO, New Perspective Senior Living; and Tiffany Tomasso, founding partner, Kensington Senior Living. Ex-officio members are Granger Cobb, president and CEO, Emeritus Senior Living; and Brad Klitsch, senior vice president of market development for Direct Supply Inc. and chairman of the ALFA President’s Council.
