LTC facilities get new TV option

Consulate Health Care is skipping the set-top boxes required by cable providers and is partnering with Raleigh, N.C.-based Bulk TV & Internet to offer satellite-based services to more than 20 healthcare and rehabilitation care centers.

As one of the nation's leading providers of senior healthcare services specializing in comprehensive skilled nursing and post-acute care, short-term rehabilitation and Alzheimer's and dementia care, Consulate operates over 200 facilities in 21 states. It also is the industry's largest senior services provider in the state of Florida.

Bulk TV, known in both the healthcare and hospitality industries for providing TV and high-speed Internet service, will rely on the satellite service offered by DIRECTV in fulfilling its contract with Consulate Health Care.

According to Bulk TV's website, the company will be able to use the centers' existing cables to bring popular channels to the room of each resident while offering an easy-to-navigate programming guide and a simplified remote control. In addition, only one small satellite dish will be needed to serve an entire facility.

"Consulate Health Care has a long history of patient-centered care; in order for us to make our patients as comfortable during their stays with us as possible, we have to be sure to provide top-notch television services," said Mark Crandall, CIO of Consulate Health Care in a press statement. "Bulk TV's responsiveness and flexible, cost-effective offerings have proven to work very well for bringing these important services to our care centers."
